The regional offices for the Canary Islands Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain were founded on the 13th of November 2006. They were established in response to the strategic need to integrate the Canary Islands as a key platform for US investment, from the private sector, into West Africa.
The Canary Islands have a strong historical and commercial connection with Africa. The unrivalled commercial infrastructure, valuable tax incentives and the presence of private capital make the Canary Islands a perfect partner and intermediary in the development and implementation of investment projects in Africa.
During the 2005 G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, new guidelines for international policy towards Africa were drawn up and more than 90 billion dollars have been pledged for investment in economic, political and social development in Africa, over a ten-year period.
It is a unique opportunity for American investors to use the Canary Islands as a secure stepping stone and platform for investments in Africa. Leading companies from the US private sector will be able to consolidate their presence in Africa throughout many sectors, most importantly those of infrastructure development and the exploitation of natural resources.
